Introduction

We aim to cater for the needs of all who visit The Barns Country Guesthouse. We have 6 guest bedrooms, 1 of which is situated on the ground floor, close to the front entrance. The other 5 rooms are on the first floor level accessed by a 13 step staircase. All rooms are en-suite.

Pre-Arrival
 
We are approximately 2 miles from the town centre of Retford , a walk of approximately 40 minutes, located on the B6420. We are not on a bus route; however buses run along the A620 with a stop about ½ miles away from our front entrance. The main train station is 5 minutes away by car; this is the main King’s Cross to Edinburgh line. There are a number of local taxi services if required. We can recommend contact numbers so that you may make a booking if required. Arrival & Car Parking Facilities

When booking please advise us of your estimated arrival time so that we can be sure to be here to welcome you, rooms are available from 4.00 p m, unless otherwise agreed. There is ample car parking for 6-8 cars in our car park at the front of the premises. This will be lit during darkness, for your arrival, we ask you to park within the allotted bays provided. The car park has a level gravel surface with 2 steps up to the porch 1 x 4 cms (1 ½”), 1 x 10 cms (4”). The front door is always kept locked for security purposes so a doorbell is provided, within the porch, at a height of 154 cms (61”), to alert us of your arrival. We are able to assist guests with luggage if this is required.

Main Entrance & Reception

Entry from the porch into the entrance hall is by one step of 16 cms (6½”) in height. The front door width is 80 cms (31 ½”). On arrival, guests are required to complete our registration form and will then be shown to their rooms and our facilities are explained. Seating can be provided in our entrance hall.

Public Areas – Ground Floor

Entrance Hall, registration area, with maximum width 107 cms (42”) between furnishings and standard stairs 800 cms (31 ½”) leading to first floor landing.

One ground floor bedroom and breakfast room.

All rooms have standard fire doors, width is 76 cms (30”) and are fitted with self closers

Public Areas - WC

There is no public WC available within the building.

Breakfast Room

Breakfast is served in our Breakfast Room on the ground floor and is accessed from our Entrance Hall at the bottom of the staircase. The entry is level. There are 5 tables. Three tables each seating 2 people 91 cms x 91 cms (36”x36”), two tables seating 2-4 people 152cms x 91 cms (60”x36”). The tables are 73cm high. Chairs are with/without arms.
We do not provide high chairs.

Vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and all other diets can be catered for upon request, at time of booking.

Eating Out

We can recommend several excellent inns and restaurants to suit you requirements within the area.

Outdoor Facilities

We are bordered by many places of historical interest and further information is available within our displays in the guesthouse.

Bedrooms

There is central heating throughout the house. The temperature of each guest bedroom is controlled by thermostatic controls on the radiators. The beds are made with all-season duvets along with a top and bottom cotton sheets.  Each bedroom has a ‘hospitality tray’ with tea, coffee, hot chocolate. In each room there is a hair dryer, a clock and a TV with remote control. Each room has storage space which usually consists of a wardrobe, chest of drawers and bedside cabinet.

Average bed-height is 58cm; average width of doorways (room entrance) is 76 cms (30”).

En-suite doorways width is 76 cms (30”) average WC height is 40cm (16”), average height of wash-basins is 80cm (31 ½”), average height of shower tray “step-in” is 25 cms (10”). Taps are standard turn.

Ground floor room located about 244 cms (96”) from the entrance door. This contains standard furniture with 1 double bed with about 92 cms (36”) clearance down both sides of the bed and 62 cms (24”) clearance between the end of the bed and a radiator, comfortable chair, en-suite shower room with step in to shower cubicle of 23cms ((9”).

First floor rooms consist of one four poster room (king size bed) with standard furniture plus 2 seater sofa, comfy chairs. En-suite with step in to shower 15cms (6”).

Three standard rooms each with double beds standard furniture, comfy chairs. En-suite with step in to showers of 21 – 34 cms (8 – 13 “)

One twin/double/family room, a versatile room that has 2 double beds, standard furniture, comfy chairs. En-suite with shower over bath, step in height 52 cms (20 ½”)

Grounds and Gardens 

To the front of the house we have an enclosed walled garden with a sitting area and lawns. Potted plants, hanging baskets and Virginia creeper enhance the appearance; guests are welcome to use this area.

Additional Information

The Barns Country guesthouse is 100% non-smoking.

We can only accept children over 8 years of age. Pets are not allowed.

Mobile phone reception is reasonable on most networks.

A refrigerator is available on the first floor landing for guests to use.

We have a full fire certificate with extinguishers positioned throughout and a fire escape to the car park from the first floor. Further information about The Barns Country Guesthouse routines in emergencies are displayed on the inside of each bedroom door.

If you need assistance in this kind of emergency (hearing impairment) please inform us on arrival and we will ensure that you are evacuated safely.
